DRL’s –¬† To see & be seen…. What is your thoughts?

On 07/02/11 a new law was passed in the UK meaning that daytime running lights (DRLs) have become a mandatory fitting to all new type approved passenger vehicles except trailers. The DRLs must switch on with the vehicle ignition and switch off when the vehicle sidelights are switched on.

However, motorists are now demanding more than functionality, and wish to have lights that not only heighten safety, but also add style and maximise road presence. A popular solution is to fit daytime running lamps (DRLs). These increase the visibility of the vehicle on the road as well as giving it a stylish modern look. Studies across Europe have indicated that your vehicle is up to 15% less likely to be involved in a vehicle to vehicle accident during daylight if DRLs are used. It will also benefit other road users such as pedestrians and cyclists who will see the vehicle earlier

However, here at LA we have been spending some time looking through reviews of this product – and what we want to know is what you think of daytime running lights..

What do you think of the new law? Is it essential? If you are using DRL’s.. is it for safety or style.. or both? If the majority of vehicles use DRL’s will the safety benefit¬† increase or descrease?
